Once in a while, we all get sick or injured. That’s not much fun, certainly not when you’re on holiday or away on a business trip in a foreign country.

So we’ve compiled a list of Amsterdam’s main hospitals for you if you or someone else in your party needs medical treatment.

There are many more medical institutions in the city, far too many to list, but I’ve included just a few you may also need to visit.

Phone: 020) 510 89 11 The Saint Lucas Andreas hospital is a large modern hospital located in Amsterdam’s Western district.

Onze Lieve Vrouwe Gasthuis, (abbreviation long) Catholic, (Our Dear Lady’s Guesthouse.)
Oosterpark branch: Oosterpark 9, 1091 AC
It’s been declared the best hospital in the Netherlands. It’s also Amsterdam’s most centrally located hospital.

VUMC VU Medical Centre
De Boelelaan 1117, 1081 HV
‘VU’ stands for “free university”.
It’s located in the Southern section of town

Slotervaart hospital

Located in the Western district
Although a general hospital, it specializes, among other things, in Aids and HIV.

Boven-IJ hospital

Located in the Northern District.

Academische Medisch Centrum (AMC) (Academic Medical centre)

A large university hospital, located in the South-East district (The bijlmer)
